Patient Satisfaction

The Administration, Medical Staff and employees of Meade District Hospital strive to meet and exceed the expectations of our valued customers. The feed back we receive from our patients and families are important in helping us identify our weaknesses and strengths so that we can deliver the care and services to our community with the highest possible standards.

Meade District Hospital is currently utilizing two methods for consumer feedback. The two systems are Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) and Healthcare Satisfaction Index (HSI).

HCAHPS
Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey is the first national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients' perspectives of hospital care. While we have collected information of patient satisfaction for our own internal use, until HCAHPS there was no national standard for collecting and publicly reporting information about patient experience of care that allowed valid comparisons to be made across hospitals locally, regionally and nationally.

Three goals have shaped HCAHPS:

  1. The survey is designed to produce data about patients' perspective of care on topics that are important to consumers
  2. Public reporting of the survey results creates new incentives for hospitals to improve the quality of care
  3. Public reporting enhances accountability in health care by increasing transparency

Meade District Hospital began a partnership with Press Ganey as our HCAHPS vendor for inpatient satisfaction beginning in 2010. In July of 2012, we will begin contracting with Communications for Research (CFR) to conduct phone surveys on all inpatient admissions. If you are admitted to our hospital as an inpatient, between 48 hours and six weeks after discharge you will receive a phone call from Communications for Research and will be asked to complete a 5 minute questionnaire. Answers are submitted back to the hospital anonymously.

Publicly reported HCAHPS results can be found on the Hospital Compare website.

HSI

While HCAHPS monitors the inpatient population we recognize that many other services of our hospital would benefit from the feedback of our outpatient and ancillary service population. An effective patient satisfaction system assists Meade District Hospital know how the patient perceives its commitment to good patient care. Therefore a contract was signed for the use of Healthcare Satisfaction Index program. Through the use of custom made surveys administered to our patients, we can monitor the quality of services in all departments. This will provide a method for you our consumer to give us the feedback we need to improve our quality of care. We value your comments about the quality of our care and services you received.
